Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park Surf Life Saving Club has one of the most impressive team of volunteers in Australia.

With an estimated 180,000 people visiting Burleigh Beach along Gold Coast’s south last year, patrolling members put in 7,803 hours of their own time to watch, protect and save lives along the iconic beach.

Russell Whitmore, Club Historian at Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park Surf Life Saving Club said, “this past season saw patrolling members successfully complete over 165 rescues and treat members of the public in almost 188 first aid cases, 16 of these being major first aid. There were 2,553 preventative actions taken by active patrolling Members.”

After raising $1800 from Christmas raffle tickets in 2016, Orrcon Steel donated the money to Burleigh Head Mowbray Park Surf Life Saving Club, who could purchase a new Rescue Board with the money.

With three rescue boards dedicated for rescues during patrols and one on each of the flags, rescue boards play a vital role in ensuring that the thousands of people that visit Burleigh Beach each year are kept safe.

“The addition of the Orrcon Steel’s Rescue Board was timely for it is the latest Certified Bennett Rescue Board,” Mr Whitmore said.

Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park Surf Life Saving Club was formally founded in 1923.

Since then they have grown to more than 1200 members and developed into an integral Surf Life Saving Club on the Gold Coast.

Orrcon Steel is thrilled to sponsor the new Certified Bennett Rescue Board and would like to remind all Burleigh Head Beach goers to swim between the flags.
