The Bend proved tricky for Tickford Racing

27/08/2018

The inaugural Supercars event ‘The Bend’ held in South Australia’s Tailem Bend proved South Australians love their motorsport.

More than 40,000 flocked to the track to see history being made.

Mark Winterbottom’s Tailem Bend campaign started strongly finishing fifth in Race 22.

It was his first top five finish since May and after the race Frosty was pleased by the clean race.

“With P2 in practice and P6 in qualifying, it was a pretty consistent day, which for Car 5 hasn’t happened for a while, so you’ve got to take the positives out of the day,” Mark said.

Unfortunately Sunday’s script was not as friendly, with the veteran dropping back to 16th in Race 23.

Cameron Waters had a mixed weekend with a 13th in Race 22, after qualifying in eighth. He backed this up with a 15th in Race 23, battling through a tough weekend.

“I think there are a lot of positives to take out of this weekend, but the results just aren’t showing yet,” Cam said.

Chaz Mostert finished Race 22 in 9th, after taking an early pit stop. He backed this up with a 12th in Race 23, a remarkable effort considering the Queenslander qualified in 24th.

“We’ve certainly got some work to do as a team, but we’ll keep chipping away, and hey, 12th from almost last isn’t a bad effort,” Chaz said.
